Columbine Health Systems' Geriatric Education Center nursing assistant course includes 92 hours of training. Course includes classroom instruction, lab practice, and hands-on clinical experience with residents. Clinical takes place at 1 of the 5 skilled nursing facilities of Columbine Health Systems.
Students will gain an understanding of the responsibilities involved in working with residents/patients of all ages in both wellness and illness. Issues of mental health, resident/patient rights, and resident/patient and family interactions are also covered. Class instruction includes the following: Basic nursing assistant procedures and skills, infection control, restorative services, general household activities, personal care skills, care of cognitively impaired clients, safety and emergency procedures.
All classroom instruction, lectures, materials, text books, quizzes, and tests are provided in English. In order to be successful, students must be able to read, write, comprehend, and speak English fluently.
