Program Description

This activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, advanced life support personnel and other health care professionals who may deal with the pediatric emergency patient.

   Course Objectives

  • Will enhance providers ability to identify and teat concussions including anticipatory guidance for concussion supportive care and return to play guidelines as well as determine which head injuries may truly need further evaluation in the Emergency Department.
  • Working through unique presentations, work-ups and pathology progression we will aid local providers in evaluating their own patients and assist them in knowing when and where to refer such cases. Attendees will broaden their differentials and avoid anchoring prematurely while more astutely recognizing some potentially life threatening conditions.
  • Recognize and identify actions to address pediatric medical traumatic stress while also better understanding the impact of intergenerational trauma and systemic inequities that lead to greater trauma exposure and stress for children in underserved, marginalized and vulnerable populations. They will learn how to integrate culturally responsive approaches into care to support patient and family resiliency.
  • Attendees will gain understanding of the unique healthcare needs and challenges faced by LGBTQIA youth in an acute setting so they may promote an inclusive environment. They will be equipped with knowledge and tools to provide culturally competent and sensitive care for this patient population.
