More and more we need to look at new approaches to achieving safe and healthy workplaces. Extensive study of the causes of workplace accidents shows that human behavior is the biggest root cause of accidents. An approach that focuses on this behavioral cause is vital to future prevention strategies and activities. How often do we assume that employees will have safe behaviors because they were “trained”? Often, this assumption fails to consider many of the factors that influence and reinforce learning and behaviors. BBS addresses these factors. It is closely linked to company culture and values and is an excellent tool to improve safety performance in the workplace.

When a worker is injured, the workers’ compensation process begins immediately—and how you respond can significantly impact both the claim’s outcome and the employee’s safe return to work. Once an injury occurs, there are limited ways to keep the costs from ballooning: taking the right steps throughout the claims process can prevent costs from escalating.  In this session, we will explore the critical actions that must be taken right away, including ensuring the injured worker receives proper medical care, monitoring restrictions, and facilitating a smooth transition back to full or modified duty. We will also discuss the importance of a strong Return-to-Work program and consistent follow-up on treatment, both of which can help contain claim costs, support your employees, and minimize the impact on your Experience Modification Rate.
