Requirements for NYS Certification

100% attendance is required for eligibility for certification testing. The student must pass a psychomotor (practical skills) exam in order to qualify to take the computer-based certification exam. The student must meet the requirements in the New York State Functional Job Description of an Emergency Medical Technician. Students must pass a criminal background check.


Proof of successful completion of the following courses is required:

  • FEMA Emergency Management Institute National Incident Management System (NIMS) online learning courses IS-100.b and IS-700.a
  • Hazmat Awareness
  • New York State Mandated Reported Training
