Presentation Content: Dr. Jakupcak will review the construct of Moral Injury and compare and contrast Moral Injury and PTSD. He will also review the existing research literature specific to Moral Injury and describe emerging, evidence-based treatment strategies to address Moral Injury. Finally, Dr. Jakupcak will facilitate a discussion around the impact of doing moral injury on providers, family members, and caregivers.


Learning Objectives:

2) Attendees will be able to describe current research findings specific to Moral Injury in combat Veterans

3) Attendees will be able to describe emerging evidence-based intervention strategies designed to address Moral Injury

4) to reflect on the impact of addressing Moral Injury on themselves and the support persons of combat veterans experiencing moral injury


Biographic Summary: Matthew Jakupcak is a clinical psychologist and researcher who has studied and treated psychological trauma, post-traumatic stress, and high-risk behaviors in military veterans, first-responders (i.e., firefighters, paramedics, police officers), and young male adults. Dr. Jakupcak has published more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters and presented at over 80 national and regional conferences on the topics of PTSD and associated conditions in trauma-exposed populations.
