STEM-OPS Annual Convening: How can STEM advance de-carceration? Dismantling structures of exclusion in STEM and incarceration.

Selected times within February 3, 2021 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm ET and February 4, 2021 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm ET

The NSF INCLUDES Alliance STEM Opportunities in Prison Settings (STEM-OPS) is comprised of partner organizations committed to making STEM learning both commonplace and successful within prisons. We welcome you to join us at the inaugural STEM-OPS annual convening, in which we celebrate the work of our peers and colleagues and seek to impact the existing carceral systems that excludes so many from STEM education and careers.Through funding from NSF, we are excited to offer complementary attendance for this first annual convening.About STEM-OPS: The primary partners of STEM-OPS are Princeton University's Prison Teaching Initiative, From Prison Cells to PhD, the Initiative for Race Research and Justice at Peabody College at Vanderbilt University, Operation Restoration, and Education Development Center. Through the development of a national network, STEM-OPS will create program modules, tools, STEM education experiences, and strategies for the prison education community and the public at large. STEM-OPS will also shed greater light on the experiences that perpetuate the school-to-prison pipeline to reshape the dominant narratives that perpetuate a lack of access to STEM education and careers.

This one-and-a-half day virtual convening will feature presenters from various partner organizations and members of the STEM-OPS team. It will also include members of the STEM OPS Alliance, including people who are formally incarcerated, funders, and employers in STEM, as well as various stakeholders in prison-based STEM college courses. We will also hear from members of the STEM- OPS Affinity Groups and participants in the Causal Loop Design cohorts.

*This event is a $250.00 value. This inaugural year, we have waived the registration fee.
