This interactive day-long institute will kick-off with a nationally recognized keynote speaker. Participants will then engage in learning opportunities and activities to develop a deeper understanding of what equity means, what it looks like in practice, and how it is manifested or stifled on their campuses. A wide variety of breakout sessions will offer conversations around equity challenges impeding student success and opportunities to brainstorm practical solutions that empower all members of the educational community. Institutions boldly addressing their own equity challenges will share their strategies, obstacles, and outcomes. Teams will be challenged to engage with new tools to use in their own equity strategy. At the end of the conference, participants will leave with ideas and strategies for the attending team to take back to their peers on campus.
We have a few updates to share regarding the
Tulare County Office of Education’s third annual Equity Conference.
The TCOE Equity Conference has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 3, 2022.
This will be a VIRTUAL event.
We also have a new opening keynote - we look forward to you joining us for an engaging and inspiring message from Dr. Sharroky Hollie, a nationally recognized speaker on cultural responsiveness and educational equity and the executive director of the Center for Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning. Dr. Hollie’s work has already established a presence throughout our county, and we look forward to how we can keep these efforts towards equity moving forward.
Additionally, two of the McFarland Runners that inspired the film McFarland, USA, Thomas Valles and Johnny Samaniejo, will serve as our closing keynote, sharing their inspiring story of grit and determination.
Attendees will also have options for breakout session presentations to select from, connected to the conference theme Equity In A Changing World. We are also including an extended breakout session offered by the National Equity Project.
