The Zero Suicide Academy is a two-day training for senior leaders of health and behavioral health care organizations that seek to dramatically reduce suicides among patients in their care. Using the Zero Suicide framework, participants learn how to incorporate best and promising practices into their organizations and processes to improve care and safety for individuals at risk. Zero Suicide faculty provide both interactive presentations and small group sessions, collaborating with participants to develop organization-specific action plans.
The objectives of the Zero Suicide Academy are to:
» Provide organizations interested in adopting a Zero Suicide approach with the skills and information necessary to launch their effort;
» Create collaborative links between the organizations launching these initiatives in order to provide mentorship and support so that the
perspectives, knowledge, and skills of each inform the work of the others; and
Applicants are to attend the Zero Suicide Academy with a team of 4 individuals including the person identified as the lead for the system's Zero Suicide initiative. Recommendations for team composition include:
Person(s) responsible and with authority for implementation decisions (e.g. Medical Doctor, CIO, ED, BH Director, or IT).
A one hour pre-Academy call taking place on March 28, 2022 from Noon-1pm PST is required for all team members.
A one hour post-Academy call taking place on May 4, 2022 from Noon-1pm PDT is required for all team members.
All Oregon organizations wishing to be considered for the Zero Suicide Academy will submit the application by the due date.
The Oregon Health Authority Zero Suicide Academy Online is provided in part by funding from SAMHSA to enhance suicide care to adults aged 25+. Preference will be given to health systems focusing on adult and lifespan care. However, as space allows, teams will be welcomed that provide services to youth.
OHA will facilitate an Oregon Community of Practice for Better Suicide Care following the Academy. The Oregon Community of Practice will consist of virtual learning sessions between May 2022 and March 2023 (exact dates to be determined). Please include if your organization will commit to participating in the Oregon Community of Practice for Better Suicide Care. Priority will be given to organizations that commit to participating.

The Oregon Zero Suicide Implementation Assessment is to be completed by your team members, and must be submitted with your application.
If your team has completed an Oregon Zero Suicide Implementation Assessment in the past 6 months, that document will meet this requirement. The Zero Suicide Academy Online application consists of: A letter of commitment written by the organization's CEO/Senior Executive Leader. The CEO/Senior Executive Leader should review and approve the submission and agree to the strategy proposed. A narrative that, in two to four pages, responds to the following: a. Briefly describe the members of your Zero Suicide implementation team and their relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. b. What are your team's goals for participating in the Zero Suicide Academy and what does the team hope to learn during the training? c. How do you plan to successfully embed and sustain comprehensive suicide care in your organization? The Oregon Zero Suicide Implementation Assessment is to be completed by your team members, and must be submitted with your application. If your team has completed an Oregon Zero Suicide Implementation Assessment in the past 6 months, that document will meet this requirement.
