Structured Teaching is the foundation to classroom engagement. It is creating systems for students to be independent and increases the level of engagement by providing the visual clarity and structure to the student day, segments of the day (such as teaching time, independent work) and to the work the student needs to complete. It focuses on generalization of skills in other environments allowing the student to function independently with visual and structural prompts versus requiring a person to provide verbal prompts. Utilizing the elements of Structured Teaching sets the stage for staff to implement other evidence based practices and best practice instructional methods for people on the ASD spectrum and other disabilities.
Join us for the next segment of Structured Teaching: "Let's Get Started!" This workshop will provide you with the opportunity to take the information you have learned and do the following:
• Determine what component to begin this practice
• Learn how continue or add other practices
• Have time to collaborate with your peers and trainer to design and create for your students, staff, and classroom.
There will be opportunities to make and take for your students and your classrooms.
