Picked out the perfect task! Now what? Spend the day developing strategies based on the book 5 Practices for Orchestrating Mathematical Discourse by Margaret S. Smith and Mary Kay Stein. Planning, implementing and reflection strategies allow for the most productive use of mathematical tasks for 4th – 9th grade students. Learn how to anticipate student responses and sequencing the sharing of ideas so that students can make connections to the intended mathematical learning. Students will enjoy the tasks and have increased understanding of the concept intended. Teachers will gain an insight into student thinking. Leave with exercises you can implement the next day. Tisa Futch ,who will be leading this workshop, believes these practices will allow all students in the math classroom to engage in learning and make connections with math concepts at individual entry points. She recently completed 33 years in the classroom working with students 4th grade to 11th grade. Come spend the day with someone who loves math and loves sharing what she has learned.
