The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe welcomes you to the Intertribal Timber Council’s Forty-Sixth Annual National Indian Timber Symposium held at the Northern Lights Casino, Hotel & Event Center in Walker, MN. This year’s theme is “Landscape: The Forest Through the Trees.” What does it mean to see the forest through the trees? This is an idea the Leech Lake Reservation has been spending considerable time on. A forest’s benefits extend far beyond the financial value of its timber and other commercial products. The Leech Lake Band, members, and staff define their forests as relatives to live with, not to lord over. These forests offer sustenance for band members and wildlife alike. It also provides medicine and identity. Succinctly put, the forest is home. During the symposium we would like to impress these ideas and welcome you to enjoy the forests of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe.
