Description: Treatment providers who serve justice-involved veterans around the nation are incorporating recovery capital into their programs and moving toward recovery-oriented systems of care. This session will explore how forward-thinking treatment providers can incorporate recovery-oriented principles into their evidence-based, manualized, cognitive-behavioral treatment programs that serve veterans who are involved in the criminal justice system.


Objectives: At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Learn how to reframe substance use disorders as chronic (not acute) conditions that respond to treatment.
  2. Learn the four pillars of recovery and how to apply them to the veteran population.
  3. Understand how participating in the community of prosocial veterans enhances outcomes for veterans diagnosed with substance use disorder and/or justice-involved veterans.
