The Share the Road Ride began in 2010 as a tribute to Phillip Hernandez who died in a cycling accident in Simi Valley in August of 2005. As a way to honor his memory, friends and family came out to participate in one of his favorite sports and to celebrate Phil’s love of a good long climb. Since our first ride, we’ve developed a team of cyclists and supporters who are dedicated to providing the BEST ride in Ventura County. 

The Share the Road Ride has run annually from August of 2010 through October of 2022. Our incredibly dedicated event team, sponsors and volunteers have shown up year after year to put on what we think is one of the best supported rides in California. We love our riders–and we work hard to provide a fun, safe, and challenging ride year after year.

After fifteen years of hosting the Share the Road Ride, we’ve decided that this will be our final ride. We have loved producing this event, but the capacity of our small team to continue after fifteen years has diminished. We want to end our fifteen year run on a high note celebrating the huge difference this event has made for Soaring Spirits International, the nonprofit we support, and the riders, volunteers, sponsors, and organizations who have made this event truly exceptional. 

We hope you will join us one last time to celebrate the cycling community, honor the riders in whose memory we host this event, and to wrap up fifteen years of camaraderie, resilience, and community. The work of Soaring Spirits International has been fueled by this ride. Every mile ridden along our courses has helped to fund help for the moment, and hope for the future for the widowed people served by Soaring Spirits’ programs. 

This year’s ride will offer three courses–the metric century, the half century, and the twenty-five mile city tour. We will offer an expanded event fair, a family BBQ featuring music and games for people of all ages, and our incredible cycling gear raffle–thanks to the incredible generosity of the All Pro Bikes team and their sponsors. Bring your family and friends out for a day at the park and an opportunity to revel in the amazing community we have built together.

This ride began as a way to honor one incredible man, Phillip Hernandez–we never imagined the incredible impact this ride would make or the number of other riders whose memories would be honored over the past fifteen years. Phil would have loved every single one of these rides. Thank you all for helping us keep his love of cycling alive, and for allowing our team to celebrate and remember so many incredible cyclists whose spirits always seem to soar on ride day. 

We are deeply grateful for the support, encouragement, and dedication of our riders.

The ride will start and end at the Simi Valley DMV parking lot side of Lemon Park. Ride times are as follows:

• Metric Century and the 50 Mile Ride at 7:30am
• 25 Mile Ride at 8:00am
