Program: Chemical Dependency & Proper Writing of Opioid Prescriptions

Course Summary:
This course will include discussion of chemical dependency and identifying the characteristics of chemical dependency in the dental office and in everyday life. Further, we will discuss our roles as dental professionals and resources to offer for our patients or staff members. How can we help our community fight against chemical dependency and control abusive writing of opioid prescriptions?

To conclude the presentation, we will go into detail on the Dental professional's role regarding chemical dependency and requirements regarding Controlled Substance Prescribing.
Speaker:
Dr. Jamie Price is the Director of Experiential Education and Pharmacist in Charge at Belew Drug, and a member of the clinical pharmacy team at Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Hospital - Encompass Health. She was voted "Most Considerate" in high school, and while playing division one soccer at the University of Tennessee at Martin, she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (2009). She attended the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, where she earned The Community Service Award (2011), The Excellence in Community Pharmacy Award (2013) and a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree (2013), before completing a PGY1 Community Pharmacy Practice Residency in Knoxville (2014). She is an enthusiastic preceptor with the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy and East Tennessee State University’s Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy. She was awarded Preceptor of the Year in 2024 from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. When she’s not working in healthcare, she attends Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church with her family, and enjoys supporting local sports teams, like One Knox. She would rather spend 90 minutes in a dentist’s chair then spend 30 minutes writing a bio.
This is a complimentary program. Participants will be awarded 2 hours CEU's for attendance. Referring doctors must accompany team members.
