Applying Evidence-Based Models to Problem Gambling Prevention: Stages of Change, Motivational Interviewing, and Diffusion of Innovations

The landscape of preventing problem gambling requires that we lead with evidence-based models. This training will describe Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, and Diffusion of Innovations as evidence-based models. Participants will learn how to incorporate these evidence-based models into problem gambling prevention programming. 


Competency Level: Advanced 


Length: 2 hours 


Learning Objectives - At the end of this training, participants will be able to:  

  • Describe the Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) theory.
  • Describe the Trans-theoretical Model of Behavior Change and the five stages of change.
  • Discuss Motivational Interviewing (MI) and its application to Behavior Change
  • Identify at least 5 strategies and techniques for applying evidence-based models into problem gambling prevention.
