Attendance for the virtual portions of the Conference are offered at no charge this year, thanks to generous contributions from Living Stream Church of the Brethren and Pacific Northwest District. This gives people who cannot attend in-person the opportunity to engage in business, a number of Equipping Sessions, and the Wednesday evening concert featuring Brethren musicians—all virtually. Those wishing to participate virtually still need to register to gain access to the streaming platform. Virtual attendees are encouraged to make a donation to the ministry of Annual Conference as an expression of appreciation. Donations can be made at www.brethren.org/giveAC. Donations earmarked for “webcasting” will be used to underwrite expenses related to streaming in 2027.

Tour the historic Embassy Theater in Fort Wayne
$ 10.00
Wednesday Jul 01, 2026 @  12:30:PM  —  01:30:PM EDT

The Embassy Theatre in downtown Fort Wayne is an outstanding gem which was saved from the wrecking ball in the early 1970's. Opened in 1928 as a movie and vaudeville theater it is on the Register of Historic Buildings. It was frequented by many famous people throughout the years and along with the attached Hotel Indiana, was a popular destination for visitors.

The building was saved by a small group who were especially attached to the Grande Page Organ, one of only four ever built. They formed the Embassy Foundation to save the organ, and in 1974 found themselves owning the entire building. Since then, the foundation has grown to include many people in the community who donated to save and restore both the theater and hotel. It has become a showplace for concerts, speakers, comedy, Broadway shows, weddings, and countless other events.

Join us during Annual Conference to tour this ornate building, learn about its history, and enjoy a concert featuring the Grande Page Organ with its 1000+ pipes and special effects.

Walk as a group across the street from the Grand Wayne Convention Center

Cost: $10 donation to the theater

“Service in Troubling Times”

Faith shapes how we choose to live and express our values in troubling times. Cliff Kindy, Bob Gross, John Hartsough, and Mary Jane Shearer joined Brethren Volunteer Service in 1969, a period of deep conflict in American history. Hear from this panel of former volunteers as they share how the historical moment affected their entrance into voluntary service, and how that commitment affected the rest of their lives. Through personal stories, they will explore service as a faithful response to wartime realities and consider how resistance to the Vietnam War can continue to inform how we serve today.

Speaker: Dr. Betty Pries

“Leadership from the Inside Out: Nurturing our Identity as Children of God”

A quote by William O’Brien is as follows: “The success of an intervention depends on the interior condition of the intervenor.” If this statement is true, then the implications for faith leaders and peacebuilders are profound. What do we mean by our interior condition and how does our interior condition influence the work we do? Dr. Pries will offer a robust understanding of our personhood in relationship with one another, proposing a metaphor of selfhood as a vehicle for understanding and transforming ourselves, our relationships, our spirituality, and the conflicts we seek to heal.

“Clergywomen as Change Agents amidst Conflict’s Transformation”

Differences are normal even essential for healthy human interactions and for listening carefully for God’s leading. Disagreeing well becomes challenging when clashing values thrust congregations and societies into discord. Dr. Pries will focus on celebrating the unique gifts women bring as change agents - particularly in traditionally patriarchal male-dominated spaces – while equipping women leaders as they navigate complex congregational and social dynamics, finding their solid ground amidst conflict’s transformation.

“Healing Power of Music”

Every month Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren's fellowship hall is full of women, moms and children laughing, playing, and potlucking. The women then circle up for simple, profound music that heals, strengthens and connects (while the kids play with a chaperone). We don't use instruments or sheet music. We learn by ear and teach each other favorite songs. Sister Song Circle is a collaboration of Beacon Heights CoB, Sophia's Portico and Bridging Worlds. This model could be a ministry for your own congregation, and an opportunity to serve moms, children, and women of all ages. Even if you can't imagine trying a sister song circle back home, our annual dinner will be a joyful and rejuvenating time.

“A Biblical Basis for Resisting Tyranny”

Dozens of OEP folks have joined in a study called OUTWIT with Dana Cassell. While we dug into biblical stories of regular people taking down tyrants, the present-day headlines became more and more eerily similar to what we read in ancient scripture. What tools can we learn from these sacred stories to use in our modern-day resistance to tyranny? Join On Earth Peace for breakfast to hear from Dana (speaking via ZOOM) and learn about OEP’s work offering a Christian nonviolent response to political violence and building capacity in local communities around the United States.

Service Project #8: Blessings in a Backpack (at Convention Center)
Service Project #8: Blessings in a Backpack (at Convention Center)

Blessings in a Backpack serves children at nine schools in the Fort Wayne community, feeding 3,750 students every weekend during the school year and an additional 11,000 children in the summer months. They also distribute “Believe Bags” on a quarterly basis to ensure that a child’s soul is being fed in addition to their stomach. Each bag contains a small gift based upon need, season, or theme and a positive message reminding the children that others believe in their worth, their ability, and their dreams. We will write and decorate positive messages for the “Believe Bags” to share our love and encouragement with the children of Fort Wayne.
