Advancing the Future of Atmospheric Radar Science

Join leading scientists, engineers, federal agency representatives, and industry innovators for an NSF-sponsored 2 1/2 day hybrid workshop that will define the next era of radar technology for atmospheric research.

Together, participants will:

  • Assess the current landscape of radar systems supporting atmospheric science.
  • Identify and prioritize the measurement capabilities needed to advance discovery and prediction.
  • Explore cutting-edge developments in communications, antenna design, and artificial intelligence.
  • Develop actionable strategies for future radar technologies, operational models, data integration, software innovation, and workforce development.

Through interactive presentations, in-depth discussions, and breakout sessions, attendees will play an active role in shaping the research, infrastructure, and collaborations that drive atmospheric observation forward.

Broader impacts:

This workshop will provide a community-wide assessment of current and emerging radar capabilities, establish shared priorities for strengthening and modernizing radar systems, and deliver strategic guidance to NSF NCAR and the broader radar community on the design and deployment of next-generation radar technologies - across both ground-based and airborne platforms.

For more information about the workshop or questions, reach out to the workshop organizers at radar-technology-workshop@ucar.edu or visit the webpage.

Register by February 20, 2026 to attend the radar conference.
