Course Summary:
This course will include discussion of chemical dependency and identifying the characteristics of chemical dependency in the dental office and in everyday life. Further, we will discuss our roles as dental professionals and resources to offer for our patients or staff members. How can we help our community fight against chemical dependency and control abusive writing of opioid prescriptions?

To conclude the presentation, we will go into detail on the Dental professional's role regarding chemical dependency and requirements regarding Controlled Substance Prescribing.

About Dr. Moore:
Dr. Tara Moore is a pharmacist and the owner of Moore Wellness, a healthy living and wellness company. Dr. Moore is an Assistant Professor with the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy and has been precepting students for 30 years. Tara earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1987 and her Pharm.D. degree from the UT, Health Science Center in 1992. She has practiced pharmacy in the community setting for over 30 years.
She is an active alumna serving in various roles such as: President, UT College of Pharmacy Alumni Board of Directors; Chair, UT Alumni Association Women’s Council and most recently as Treasurer, UT Board of Governors. Tara is a member of state and national pharmacy organizations and is an active & passionate promoter of plant-based nutrition (Live Pure), diabetes education, and overall healthy living & wellness. The UT College of Pharmacy Classes of 1999, 2009 and 2020 voted Dr. Moore Preceptor-of-the-Year.
Tara is originally from Manchester, TN and has lived in Knoxville for 30 years with her husband John O, son Nic and dog Hank! She attends Beaver Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church and loves her Vols!
About Kathy Yarlett:
Kathy Yarlett R.N., BSN graduated from Maryville College in 1990 Cum Laude with a Bachelors of science in Nursing. She has been an occupational health nurse since 1991. She provides a variety of programming in both general industry and the dental setting. She began teaching blood borne pathogens in industry in 1991 and began teaching blood borne pathogens in the dental setting in 2010.
She lives in Maryville. Her greatest joy is to spend time with her husband, 4 children and almost 8 grandchildren. There is one currently on the way. She is passionate about health and fitness and is a member of CrossFit.
OSHA/HIPPA Update “ Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Setting Basic Expectation for Safe Care.”
This 1 hour program was created to complement the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention publication titled “Summary of Infection Prevention Practices in Dental Setting Basic Expectation for Safe Care.” This publication was developed to help increase adherence with established infection prevention practices.
This program provides an overview of the principles of infection prevention and control that form the basis for the CDC recommendation for dental health care settings.
This program will focus on the following elements:

5. Respiratory Hygiene/Cough Etiquette
