Introducing Dr. Calvin Panah

Join us as we proudly introduce the newest member of our surgical team, Dr. Calvin Panah, ahead of his start with our practice this August.

Dr. Panah will share his clinical background, philosophy of care, and surgical approach—offering insight into how he collaborates with referring providers to deliver predictable, patient-centered outcomes and seamless continuity of care.  In addition, Dr. Panah will present several important 2026 updates in oral surgery, with a focus on developments most relevant to the general dentist.

A Candid Conversation on Risk, Resilience & Protection

Following the introduction of Dr. Panah, Dr. Mark Jesin will lead an informative and deeply personal discussion focused on malpractice risk, documentation, and the often-overlooked emotional and professional impact that legal challenges can place on providers and their practices.

Over the past two years, Dr. Jesin has navigated both a board investigation and a malpractice lawsuit. He will thoughtfully share insights from this journey—discussing the realities, stressors, and lessons learned while moving through these challenges. With a focus on transparency and professional growth, this conversation aims to help remove the stigma often associated with legal and board matters in healthcare and foster a supportive environment where colleagues can learn from one another and feel less isolated during difficult times.

We are honored to welcome Chris Spain, an experienced healthcare attorney who has worked extensively on both the defense and plaintiff sides of malpractice litigation. Chris will provide valuable legal perspective and share best practices related to malpractice contracts, risk management strategies, and proactive steps providers can take to protect themselves and their practices. His balanced experience offers unique real-world insight into how cases develop and how they can often be prevented.

About Dr. Jesin

Dr. Mark Jesin is a graduate of the University of Toronto School of Dentistry and completed rigorous hospital-based training at Weil Cornell Medical Center, followed by a four-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Boston University Medical Center. His advanced training culminated in dual board certification in both the United States and Canada, along with diplomate status from the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology. In addition to his extensive clinical credentials, Dr. Jesin’s long-standing involvement with national professional organizations and his patient-centered philosophy—grounded in empathy, communication, and trust—give him unique insight into the clinical, emotional, and operational factors that influence provider risk and well-being. This combination of professional expertise and lived experience enables Dr. Jesin to speak with both authority and authenticity on navigating legal challenges and strengthening practice protection in today’s dental landscape.

About Dr. Panah

Dr. Calvin Panah is a chief resident at the MedStar oral and maxillofacial surgery program in Washington, D.C. He looks forward to joining the Advanced Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Studio team in August. He graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 2022 ranked 2nd in his class, receiving honors such as induction into the National Dental Honor Society, the American College of Dentists Outstanding Leadership Award, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Dental Student Award, and the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Award.

As a resident, he has rotated at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Children’s National Medical Center, the Washington D.C. Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and The National Institutes of Health. He brings robust experience across the full spectrum of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including routine extractions and grafting procedures, advanced dental implant placement, jaw reconstruction, and facial trauma surgery.

About Chris Spain

Chris Spain is Deputy General Counsel, Litigation and Head of Claims at Acrisure, LLC, where he oversees the company’s litigation and claims operations. With 17 years of legal experience, Chris brings a comprehensive understanding of liability risk, insurance placement, and the claims process. Acrisure’s fintech platform supports a wide range of industries, including providing specialized insurance brokerage services for medical and dental professionals. 

Chris began his legal career in private practice, where he spent 10 years litigating civil cases, including medical and dental malpractice matters on both the plaintiff and defense sides. This dual perspective gives him unique insight into how professional liability cases develop, how claims are evaluated by attorneys and insurers, and how to navigate the highs and lows when facing a professional liability claim. Chris has spent the past six years leading both the litigation and claims departments, working closely with insurance professionals, attorneys, and clients to navigate complex claims and coverage issues.
