Advanced Topics in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD

Time: 9:00am-4:00pm

Location: Virtual

Instructor: Dr. Scott Michael Ph.D., Lake Washington Mental Health

CE credits: 6.0 (pending)

Course Description:

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is one of the gold-standard treatments for Veterans with PTSD. And working effectively with Veterans calls for an in-depth understanding of both the types of trauma-related cognitions ("stuck points") common to Veterans with PTSD and how to use CPT to address those stuck points with Veteran populations. In this session, we will examine the types of stuck points that often arise for the Veterans we serve. We will also work on best practices techniques for how to use CPT skills to help Veterans address those types of stuck points. Additionally, we will focus on the use of CPT to address moral injury.

Learning objectives.

At the end of this training participants will be able to:

  • Describe best practices in using CPT to address assimilation-related stuck points and over-accommodation-related stuck points
  • List and explain four (4) strategies for effective cognitive restructuring using CPT
  • Explain how to use CPT to address moral injury in Veteran populations
