The Lean Six Sigma Program is a partnership between The University of Texas at Arlington and George Group, now a division of Accenture. The instructors are TMAC staff (part of UTA) who are highly experienced in teaching and implementing LSS in a variety of business environments. Two instructors teach each class, alternating from module to module of the course material. This approach provides the students with differing perspectives, and serves to keep the instructors fresh.
Training materials include a course binder. Laptop computers are not used in this class. Optionally, a short quiz can be included at the end of Day 2. Exercises include both manufacturing and transactional examples. An example of a completed project is presented to show how the DMAIC process works from start to finish. Specific topics covered in the course are on the next page.
Training is application-based with exercises and a detailed, hands-on case study. The Sigma Station Simulation provides a rich learning experience involving multiple improvements to a fictional business. Instructors focus less on theory but more on practical application of the various tools. Participants will learn some of the most basic tools of each DMAIC phase.
NOTE:It is important to keep in mind that thegoal of Yellow Belt training is NOT to prepare the participantsto lead problem-solving teams. Yellow Belts get only two days of training while Green Belts get two weeks and Black Belts get four weeks.
Instead, the primary goal of the Yellow Belt is to prepare them to beeffective team members on project teams lead by Black Belts or Green Belts. A secondary goal is for participants to gain knowledge of the most basic tools to address day-to-day issues in the workplace.
