This years theme is Naawsidoong Mino Nawendiwin: Building Good Relationships
Learning never takes place in isolation; it is always a collective endeavour. That is, no single institution, community, or individual maintains all building blocks of culturally responsive education. Success is shaped not only by our capacity to dialogue and transform differences, but also the extent to which diverse communities can equitably contribute to the conversation, share resources, and implement change together. The task of building culturally responsive education is not reserved for a select few; rather it is a responsibility we all share, at all levels of global society, in all cultures and regions, and across all societal sectors.
Featuring an exciting program of keynote presentations, networking, interactive workshops, and breakout discussion circles, alongside rich cultural programming, this year’s theme, Naawsidoong Mino Nawendiwin, centres relationship building as a core foundation of transformative change. It considers not only the purpose and practice of education, but also how educators can effectively communicate, equitably share our gifts, knowledges and skills, and work collaboratively to build more responsive education. Whether it's our amazing keynote presentations, panel discussions, interactive hands-on workshops, or engaging breakout sessions, there is something for everyone!
IKG Overview
In considering the diversity of practices and traditions that exist within Indigenous nations, Indigenous education offers possibility, hope, and opportunity not only for the enhancement of educational outcomes but, conceived broadly, for the health and wellness of broader communities. It contributes to the scope of human understanding, offering values, philosophies, conceptual frameworks, and perspectives on how to move forward collectively. Bringing together a diverse array of educators, practitioners, scholars, students and members of Indigenous communities, the Indigenous Knowledges Gathering provides a safe space to think about and actively engage in meaningful conversations about the role and inherent responsibilities of education.
