Course Description:
Integration of creative therapies and arts activities offer Veteran clients expanded healing beyond behavioral health treatment, in ways such as facilitating social connection, strengthening resilience and hope while accomplishing new skills and fostering creative thinking. This virtual CEU workshop provides a brief review of several therapeutic arts modalities and introduces regionally based community arts programs. Through panel discussions and experiential exercises, professional behavioral health providers will be encouraged to express their own creativity while considering the benefits for Veteran clients.
Objectives:
Participants will:
Describe evidence-based and pragmatic applications of creative arts therapies with Veterans receiving behavioral health treatment.
Understand the relationship between creative arts engagement and promotion of Veteran personal growth and social awareness.
Critically consider integration of creative therapies and community arts engagement as part of treatment for Veteran client health and wellness.
Apply and practice arts engagement through hands-on creative exercises.
