THIS EVENT IS 100% FREE!

When: Friday, November 12 (9am-Noon, PST)

Where: Online/Zoom

Trainer: Chalon Ervin, PhD.

Description

We work with an increasingly diverse ethnic population. We work with an increasingly high number of individuals who have experienced or been exposed to traumatic events. Given that trauma occurs in every culture, knowledge of how culture may impact symptom expression is critical in understanding the psychological strengths and difficulties of those who have experience trauma. In this training we will work to increase knowledge, awareness, and understanding of transition and trauma and the associated psychosocial stressors. The workshop will address the signs and symptoms associated with trauma and PTSD and how they may present amongst various cultures.

Objectives

  • Participants will understand what PTSD is, what makes it better, and what makes it worse.
  • Participants will be able to explore the etiological foundations of PTSD to enhance the understanding of core features and mechanisms involved in the development and maintenance of the disorder within a cultural context.
  • Participants will be able to identify how multicultural competency impacts clinical work with Veterans
  • Develop a better understanding of culture through critical thinking activities.
  • Begin to consider how cultural understanding can facilitate cross cultural interaction.
  • Better understand culture and PTSD in regard to the military population.
