The older adult care industry has long been faced with challenges such as high staff turnover and an increasing number of older adults with significant care needs. Without accessible tools to help formulate an action plan these challenges can contribute to budget challenges, deplete the quality of care delivered, and erode care center culture. Building on decades of training and education experience, the Mental Health Association of Maryland invites you to learn more about their unique non-profit initiative, Engage with®, aimed to address workforce challenges in older adult care settings. Join Amanda Krisher, LCSW-C to discuss the impact of staff turnover, satisfaction and competencies on both staff and resident experience and learn how you can effectively implement various tools and strategies to address these challenges. |

The Courtroom as Classroom: Powerful Lessons Learned in Litigation
Litigation continues to be a common and costly challenge for the LTPAC/Senior Care community. Indeed, concerns about lawsuits are perhaps greater now than before the pandemic. In short, litigation is a reality that our community cannot afford to ignore. Providing quality care is essential, but it is only the start. Some of the most powerful lessons to be learned about how to protect your facility from becoming the target of a lawsuit can only be learned through litigation! By reviewing real-life examples of deposition testimony, legal pleadings, and patient records from actual Maryland lawsuits, you will see how Plaintiffs exploit the public’s prejudices and preconceptions to influence the way a jury looks at care. You will also learn the tips and tricks you need to defend yourself, your team, and your facility. |

All individuals, particularly those who are vulnerable, must be protected from abuse and neglect. Abuse can be physical, verbal, mental or sexual in nature. It is not surprising that sexual assault is the least acknowledged, least reported and most hidden form of abuse for elders and dependent-adults. Between 2000 and 2020, more than 16,000 complaints of sexual abuse were reported in long-term care facilities, as noted by Federal data cited in The National Long-term Care Ombudsman Resource Center Multi-Year Complaint Trend Report. |
