This training is for all teachers K-12. However, it may be most appropriate for certain grade levels or subjects. Each training is 3 hours, and both trainings will occur on the same day.

• Training #1: Participants explore the events of the Holocaust through the lens of media, by examining propaganda deployed by the Nazis to discriminate against Jews and other minorities. Educators gain tools to facilitate classroom discussions and support students to analyze media in today’s world.
• Training #2: It Starts with Words: Teaching the Holocaust to Combat Hate: The Holocaust arose out of antisemitic hatred fueled in part by the power of words. Participants examine the escalation of words to violence, which in turn, became genocide in order to consider where such a progression might have been interrupted. Educators gain tools to apply these lessons to modern day issues faced by students to ensure human dignity for all.

This training will build on the training from the past two years while also providing new opportunities. Participants will gather practical ideas and considerations. USBE credit is available.

In this two-day conference, we will be hearing from district teachers as well as state leaders about how to reach and work with our Latino student population. Topics will include accommodation strategies as well as cultural considerations. Time will also be allotted for subject-specific breakouts. All subject areas are invited and encouraged to attend. Administrators, counselors, and technicians are also encouraged to attend. USBE credit is available.

"Restorative Practices is an emerging social science that studies how to strengthen relationships between individuals as well as social connections within communities" (IIRP).

This class will provide educators with basic strategies for using Restorative Practices to improve connections, reduce suspensions, manage misbehavior, heal harm in relationships, increase responsibility, and create a more equitable learning environment so that all school community members feel valued and have the opportunity to thrive.

3rd Grade Teachers

Learn how to create choice boards that align with your math standards. Choice boards allow students to take ownership of their learning by giving them control over their path and pace to complete meaningful activities. This frees you up to invest time and energy into working with individual or small groups of students. In this course, you will explore options for choice boards activities and create your own choice board.

In this class, you’ll be able to select several different works of historical fiction to read and report on. The purpose will be to expose participants to a large variety of novels. This class is online during the month of July. Participants will earn 0.5 USBE credits.

Come and be paid to examine the new social studies standards and help to develop lessons and curriculum for yourself and other teachers. Relicensure hours are available for this. Payment for the first 30 is through a grant so no voucher is necessary. A voucher from your principal may be necessary to be paid for anyone who registers after the class fills at 30.
