Risk Needs Responsivity for Justice-Involved Veterans (3 CEs)

Faculty: Chris Wig

When: December 19th | 1pm-4pm

Location: Virtual/Zoom

CE Hours: 3

Description

Risk Needs Responsivity (RNR) is the most common model for assessment and rehabilitation for individuals involved in the criminal justice system. RNR is based on General Personality Cognitive Social Learning Theory and is used by public safety agencies to evaluate risk of recidivism and determine treatment. Participants will learn how to apply principles of RNR to their work with justice-involved veterans. Ability to fluently communicate RNR principles will improve communication between treatment providers and justice system partners.

Learning Objectives

Participants in this workshop will be able to:

  • Apply principles of Risk Needs Responsivity to veteran-specific population.
  • Explore how ‘Central Eight’ risk/need factors can influence or mitigate recidivism for justice-involved veterans.
  • Explore effects of veteran-specific responsivity factors (e.g. PTSD, TBI, sleep disorders, etc.) on treatment adherence.
