This course will focus on American Indian history from the perspective of Utah’s Indigenous people and their tribal experience told by tribal members. The course will also cover United States Federal Indian policies and the history of American Indian Education. The goal of this course is to help teachers gain a better understanding of Native American students and to learn appropriate ways to integrate topics related to Utah history. Attendees will also learn about the work of Nebo's Title VI program. This year's training will build on the training from the past few years while also providing new opportunities. Participants will gather practical ideas and considerations. USBE credit is available.

This course will utilize the book Better Conversations, by Jim Knight, to show participants how to adopt the conversational habits essential to transforming the quality of our dialogues and coaching. Learn how to have more productive conversations that result in better relationships, educator action and transformational growth. Effective coaching is based on mastery of best practices in instruction and assessment. This course will delve into The Art & Science of Teaching (Marzano) as a foundation and validation of instructional expertise.

Participants will begin this course with 2 days of in person instruction, then finish the rest of the course asynchronously through Canvas.

In this course, students will learn how to effectively implement game-based learning and gamification in the classroom. The course provides a series of readings, resources, links, and video tutorials that explain what game-based learning and gamification are, why they are worth considering, and how to use them effectively. The course also covers a few examples of websites and other educational resources that can make game-based learning and gamification more practical in today’s classrooms. The course is divided into two parts: one that focuses on game-based learning and one that focuses on gamification.

This 6-week online class is designed to help K-12 teachers understand the Genius Hour method and effectively use the wealth of information resources in Utah’s Online Library to enrich their teaching and students’ learning. The course guides participants through using the many research databases, composing and selecting good questions/topics, teaching research skills and strategies, planning, and preparing to use Genius Hour in their own class. In the end, participants will create and plan a Genius Hour Unit Plan they can use with their class.
