 Leading For Quality:

Building the Next Generation of STEAM Educators

NJSACC, in collaboration with the National Institute on Out-of-School Time, offers a three-session training—one in-person session and two virtual sessions—designed for staff who work directly with youth and seek to enhance their expertise in STEAM education. This professional development initiative is designed to equip staff members working in afterschool programs with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively deliver engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activities to students, essentially training them to become instructors for other afterschool STEM programs.

Whether you are new to this niche or looking to deepen your knowledge, this training will provide the tools and strategies needed to create impactful STEAM learning experiences. Participants will develop a toolkit to be shared with all New Jersey 21st CCLC programs, ensuring that STEAM education is accessible, engaging, and sustainable across the state.

Each session will introduce concepts, tools, and strategies to help educators and program leaders build and sustain high-quality STEAM learning experiences. Sessions will focus on three primary goals:

  1. Strengthening foundational skills for delivering hands-on, inquiry-based STEAM activities in out-of-school time settings.
  2. Expanding knowledge of best practices in STEAM education, including how to create inclusive and engaging learning environments.
  3. Developing a collaborative network of STEAM educators who can support each other in training and mentoring colleagues.

Critical topics such as curriculum development, resource sustainability, partnerships, and strategies for training other educators will also be included.

Come learn from experts in STEAM education as well as from each other in this exploratory and action-oriented series.

Target Audience: New Jersey 21st CCLC program staff and non-21st CCLC program coordinators who:

  • Want to develop or strengthen their expertise in STEAM education.
  • Are eager to train and mentor colleagues in delivering high-quality STEAM programs.
  • Seek innovative strategies to engage youth in meaningful, hands-on STEAM experiences.
  • Are interested in building a statewide network of STEAM educators.
