Roofing with Kirk is a comprehensive full-day training that explores roofing requirements in Chapters 9 and 15 of the 2024 International Residential Code (IRC) and International Building Code (IBC). This class is designed to walk you through Colorado's New Wildfire Resiliency Code and provide guidance on its application and enforcement. Attendees will gain an understanding of this new statewide code, and the significant dates and benchmarks established in legislation that any local governing body working in the wildland-urban interface should be aware of.

Model Low Energy Carbon Code – 4 Hours

There are many questions surrounding the Colorado Model Low Energy Carbon Code. How does a project demonstrate compliance with these revised provisions and how does the design and code requirement protect the safety, health, and welfare of the occupants, workers, and general public? This training will address the provisions with a focus on commercial construction, as we highlight how construction plans can demonstrate compliance and promote success in addressing the statutorily established goal of building codes in promoting and preserving public safety.

Wall Bracing – American Wood Council - The 2024 International Residential Code (IRC) provides detailed guidelines for constructing one- and two-family dwellings, as well as townhouses, up to three stories. This presentation covers the key requirements for prescriptive wall bracing, including lateral load paths, required connections to resist these forces, the various types of braced wall panels, and the correct implementation of braced wall lines.

Artificial Intelligence and its Impact on the Building Industry - 2 Hours
The promise of this new generation of Artificial Intelligence software is that it has all the answers. The reality is that there is great opportunity in Large Language Model (LLM) applications, but it comes with unique challenges, especially if it is trying to be a resource for building and safety codes. This session will cover those challenges both from the perspective of a user trying to evaluate and utilize AI tools for building codes, and from the view of those on the software side trying to build and train those tools. The session will help members understand where AI meaningfully fits into plan review, permitting, and inspection workflows using real examples of how jurisdictions are adopting these tools today.
Preview of 2027 I-Codes - 2 Hours
The 2027 I-Codes are expected to be released in fall 2026. In anticipation of the release, ICC’s team will give highlights of significant changes in the 2027 International Residential Code (IRC), International Building Code (IBC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) and International Fire Code (IFC) as well as the International Existing Building Code (IEBC) and International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC).

This class helps code officials understand their vital role in that process. Participants will explore how legislative and local government actions influence code adoption, enforcement, and evolution, and how officials can ethically and effectively engage in advocacy. The session covers Colorado’s legislative structure, key decision makers, the difference between advocacy and lobbying, and real examples showing how policy affects building safety, housing, and energy performance. Practical strategies for engaging with local councils, boards, and legislators will help strengthen the voice of the code community while maintaining credibility and neutrality.
