Welcome to the Summer Course at SAVES for the EMT Original!

Please be advised that lectures will be held VIRTUALLY via zoom on Monday's at 8am.

Labs will be held on Wednesday 6pm-10pm.

This is a 11-week program that requires dedication 2 days a week to complete the necessary course work to be granted certification.

Any missed days must be made up, with the discretion of the instructor.


This course prepares students to assess and provide emergency treatment of medical and traumatic conditions in the out of hospital environment. Lectures will cover fundamental topics of human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and assessment-based care of many medical and traumatic emergencies. Clinical labs provide students with instruction and hands-on experience with triage, vital signs, bandaging and splinting, hemorrhage control, rescue breathing, CPR, and childbirth among other topics. Successful completion of this course may lead to New York State Emergency Medical Technician certification.


Requirements for NYS Certification

100% attendance is required for eligibility for certification testing. The student must pass a psychomotor (practical skills) exam in order to qualify to take the computer-based certification exam. The student must be 17 years of age prior to the last day of the month in which they are scheduled to take the certification exam for the course in which they are enrolled. The student must meet the requirements in the New York State Functional Job Description of an Emergency Medical Technician. Students must pass a criminal background check. Clinical sites may require verification of physical exam and immunizations. Students are required to document no less than ten (10) patient contacts during the course.


Proof of successful completion of FEMA Emergency Management Institute National Incident Management System (NIMS) online learning courses IS-100.c, IS-700.b, and Hazmat Awareness, and New York State Mandated Reported Training is also required.
