Battle Mind to Home Mind: Train-the-Trainer

Time: 9:00am-4:00pm

Location: WDVA Central Office (with Virtual Option)

Instructor: Peter Schmidt, WDVA Senior Program Manager for Counseling and Wellness

CE credits: Unavailable for this course at this time.

Course Description:

This workshop will provide instruction on how to deliver WDVA's Battle Mind to Home Mind (BM2HM) veteran cultural competency course. The BM2HM course sheds light on the world that military veterans come from, highlights the challenges veterans face in transitioning from “Battle Mind' to 'Home Mind', and offers a meaningful discussion about how an individual or organization can create an environment in which veterans can find their “second mission.”

 Objectives:

  1. Understanding and awareness of military and veteran cultural and experience, particularly experiences surround transition from military to civilian life.
  2. Understanding of and ability to deliver the BM2HM course curriculum.
  3. Understanding of and ability to apply instructional methods and techniques appropriate for delivering sensitive content concerning military transition experience including issues of trauma-informed care and post-traumatic growth.
