This interactive workshop demonstrates how artificial intelligence can be used to create quick, low-cost tabletop training tools for incident size-up, apparatus positioning, and triage planning. Participants will use their own devices to practice applying AI in real time and discover how this innovative technology can enhance localized fire service training and support more effective emergency response.

Hazmat IQ- This foundational course was developed by responders to simplify hazardous materials assessment for street-level responders. Dan Grimes- Building a Modern Firefighter Training Program

This course presents a training program as both an instructor-development case study and a practical template that attendees can adapt for use in their own departments. Grounded in current educational theory, the synopsis explores chunk learning, deep practice, self-evaluation, and learning strategies that engage all three learning domains. We will discuss the selection and training of field trainers, how to structure and maintain a field training program, and how to set/evaluate benchmarks. The program will also examine stress inoculation training, universal laws of learning, work-rest cycles, and creative play as methods for breaking repetitive training patterns and improving firefighter development.

Zach Gianotti- Landfills and Fire in Alaska

Landfills in Alaska have a lot of history with fires. Many of the small landfills in the state burn waste regularly, some of the large landfills recently have dealt with large, unexpected fires. The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation Solid Waste Program works with landfills big and small across the state to better manage their facilities. Out of control landfill fires are something we strive to prevent, but we have to plan for the best possible response when they do happen. Come join ADEC SWP staff talk about fires that have occurred in Alaska landfills in 2026 and what lessons we have learned. We will end our presentation with a discussion on how we can improve the waste/fire dynamic in Alaska.

DrugIQ trains responders to safely manage synthetic opioid incidents, including clandestine labs, using risk-based response strategies. Students learn a four-tier risk assessment process covering resources, PPE, safety precautions, tactical considerations, and decontamination procedures for responders, victims, and suspects.
