The Substitute Teaching 101 course is completely online and self-paced using pre-recorded videos. The course is designed for people who are interested in becoming substitute teachers in their respective school systems. The Substitute 101 course contains four modules and participants will be assessed at the end of each module. Participants must complete all tasks (viewing files/videos) and “Mark them as Complete” where applicable, and must score at least 80% correct on each of five quizzes to complete the course.
You will take the Blood Borne Pathogen Quiz and the Diabetes Quiz as part of your substitute training and these will be noted on your certificate.
***There are no refunds for this course. Before taking this course, it is your responsibility to check with the school district in which you wish to substitute to ensure that the school district will accept the certificate for this course.
***IMPORTANT Note: Your Substitute Teaching 101 confirmation email contains instructions for creating your WRESA account on our Online course platform. Be sure to check your email and follow the directions to create an account and get started with the course. If you DO NOT see the confirmation email, check your SPAM, Promotions or other junk folder. The email account you created to register for the Substitute Teaching 101 course IS NOT the same account you use to take the course on our online learning platform. YOU MUST create an account on our WRESA online learning platform to gain access to the actual course.
On any given day approximately 274,000 substitute teachers serve in this country’s classrooms. By the time a student graduates from high school, that person will have spent the equivalent of a full year being taught by a substitute. As a result, quality preparation of substitute teachers is critical for student learning.
WRESA would like to thank Henderson, Jackson and Macon Counties; Jan King, Director of School Learning and Leadership Development for Henderson County Schools; and Monica Shepherd, Northwest Regional Educational Facilitator, for sharing their time and resources with us.
