Continue to set your program up for success this year with NJSACC’s new Youth Work Convention specifically for staff working directly with youth in afterschool! Each participant will enjoy all three of these hands-on workshops in one day, plus lunch & time for networking with others doing similar work. Register as individuals, or, better yet, sign up groups of staff that can work together on implementing the best practices that they'll gain here. Leadership staff is welcome too as this is a great opportunity to build shared language and approaches to working with youth. These workshops will be active & hands on, so come dressed to participate.

YOUTH WORK CONVENTION WORKSHOPS:

Intro to Leading School Age Group Activities

In this hands-on session, we’ll go into how to creatively lead a range of activities that include team building, games, “Hurry Up & Wait . . .”, & plenty of fun! Participants will explore how to choose activities, adapt activities, & balance the pace to fit the school age group & circumstances towards maximizing the fun, positive relationships, & healthy physical activity. Come dressed to play & have fun!

Finding the Balance: Youth Choice Based & Staff Led Experiences in OST

Kids need both – the time & opportunity to choose what to participate in as well as planned & structured activities, so how do we provide a healthy balance? In this hands-on session, we’ll explore how to set up & supervise a variety of choice based activity spaces balanced with staff led experiences.

Supporting Behavior & Inclusion in OST

In this session led by our Kids Included Together (KIT) trainer, participants will be introduced to valuable skills & tools to better understand & support all youth in their programs, even the challenging ones. Learn about creating inclusive environments, listening to behavior as communication, & finding appropriate responses to challenging behavior.
