This interactive, two-day course includes one day of lectures followed by a hands-on wet laboratory the next day to teach participants the background, rationale, planning, surgical technique, post-op care, complications, and clinical experience of tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO). Each participant will perform a TPLO during dry and wet labs using state of the art equipment and implants. Participants will use locking plate technology to simplify, increase precision and reduce complications of the procedure. Participants should have a basic knowledge of the surgical anatomy and approach to the stifle. Instructors will access and provide feedback on the participant’s repair technique. Postoperative management will also be discussed.


Learning Objectives:


  • Ability to recognize the clinical and radiographic indications for cruciate surgery
  • Familiarity with the evidence base and rationale behind TPLO
  • Ability to perform surgical planning for TPLO
  • Familiarity with the surgical approach for combined stifle joint exploration and TPLO surgery
  • Familiarity with performing a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy and applying a locking TPLO plate
  • Ability to apply their knowledge in managing meniscal injury in cruciate disease
  • Ability to identify and manage complications after cruciate surgery


VOI provides all equipment and materials for each fracture course.
