Gloom, Doom & Terror (GD&T)

Blueprint, GD&T, and Dimensional Management

If you’ve looked at a shop drawing and encountered unfamiliar symbols, chances are you were looking at Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) annotations. For many of us, these annotations can turn what seemed to be the comfortable territory of shop blueprints into a completely alien landscape.

The ASME Y14.5 standard, popularly known as “GD&T,” is revered by those who understand it and feared by those who don’t. No matter which camp you are in, Y14.5 is here to stay, and for good reason: GD&T brings uniformity, precision, and unambiguous recording of design intent, manufacturing tolerance, and inspection requirements. Unfortunately, none of it is as easy or intuitive as we would like.

If you are haunted by unresolved GD&T problems, blueprint interpretation, Model-Based Definition (MBD) questions, or dimensional inspection issues—or if your staff could use training in these areas, from refresher level to advanced, TMAC can help.

This Learn @ Lunch will provide a broad and informative overview about GD&T and dispel some of the myths that surround the infamous "Gloom, Doom & Terror."

Who Should Attend:

Blueprints are legal instruments of record. Business Owners, Operation Managers, Engineers, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Professionals, and Inspection Personnel are all affected by what the blueprint says and means.
