In order to remain competitive, organizations must be continually improving. When employees and teams think scientifically, they can solve problems effectively and innovate towards challenging goals. To develop scientific thinking capability, you must be able to coach others. In fact, effective coaching is a critical leadership skill for managers to master.
The Coaching Kata phase of the Improvement Kata/Coaching Kata approach, based on Mike Rother's book Toyota Kata, provides a starting point for coaching others to develop scientific thinking. However, to develop excellent coaching skills requires extensive practice and continual development.
The Kata Coaching Dojo Series, based on Tilo Schwartz "Kata Dojo" material, is a set of workshops that focus on developing the coaching skills of both beginners and established coaches. The dojo offers a safe, supportive atmosphere for coaches to deliberately practice new coaching techniques using role play exercises to simulate specific situations The dojo environment allows coaches to repeatedly practice responses to coaching scenarios thus developing a natural and highly supportive approach for encouraging scientific thinking in others.
The Kata Coaching Dojo Series includes three half day workshops that occur every six weeks over a 4-month time frame. The workshop is for both beginner and experienced Kata coaches. Coaching skills and tips for target condition, current condition, obstacles and PDCA cycles will be covered. Participants will leave with tips on specific ways to ask questions that develop scientific thinking and an instinctive natural conversant approach with coaching cycles.
Each workshop in the series will build on the previous workshop content and participant application experience. Participants can sign up for each workshop individually or save and sign up for the series.
Dates:
We will do online 75-minute coaching sessions each week for a total of six sessions.
