ITLS combines classroom learning, hands-on skills stations, and assessment stations that put learning to work in simulated trauma scenarios. The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) has endorsed ITLS since 1986 and recognizes the importance of quality pre-hospital care. It is dedicated to a leadership role in improving the standards and training of EMS providers. EMS providers, emergency nurses, and emergency physicians are members of the same team. In this interactive class we’re going to discuss different strategies to identify and avoid these pitfalls. We’re making critical thinking cool again, and you’ll leave with strategies to help you improve your thought processes and share it with the next generation of prehospital professionals.

Contingency and crisis standards have become a reality with COVID-19 patients filling up hospitals and leaving inadequate resources to care for patients of any type. Without the ability to accept patients even into the ED hallways, EMS agencies are having to absorb the care of these patients. This is a direct parallel to issues faced on the battlefield and the Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) guidelines and curriculum were developed to address this issue. The concepts of triage, ongoing triage, casualty collection points, evacuation care and prolonged field care will be discussed in the context of Alaskan Emergency Medical Services. Pushed to the forefront of civilian EMS by COVID-19 these concepts are applicable to |
