The Bare Bones of Oral-Systemic Health

A complimentary CE program

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Our bones do more than just provide structure, they store essential minerals, produce blood cells, and protect vital organs. But the strength and quantity of our bones are critical to our health and longevity, and unfortunately, many people, especially women, struggle with declining bone health. Bones are influenced by genetics, hormones, lifestyle choices, environmental factors, and chronic diseases, yet we often focus solely on oral health when assessing bone health. What about the broader systemic impact? Dental professionals are uniquely positioned to play a key role in recognizing and addressing bone health beyond the mouth.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Explain the oral–systemic connection as it relates to bone health and recognize how dental findings may reflect broader skeletal or systemic conditions.
  • Screen patients for potential bone health concerns using dental assessments, patient history, risk factors, and clinical indicators.
  • Apply knowledge of bone health to help prevent, detect, and manage chronic diseases that intersect with oral and skeletal wellness.
  • Incorporate bone-health considerations into dental treatment planning, including identifying when modifications or precautions are needed.
  • Educate patients on lifestyle, nutritional, and behavioral strategies that support optimal bone health and reduce risk of systemic and oral complications.

Location: Courtyard by Marriott

1789 S Eagle Rd, Meridian, ID 83642
