INFECTIOUS DISEASES AND ANTIBIOTIC PRESCRIBING HABITS:

National recommendations for antibiotic prescriptions are constantly being modified. This course will review the most up to date recommendations from the American Dental Association and other professional societies on antibiotic prescribing habits for oral surgery

and dental procedures. We will also discuss local antibiotic resistances and when referral to an infectious disease expert is indicated.

OBJECTIVES:

- Recognize proper indications for pre-procedure antibiotics

- Appropriately select antibiotic and dose for both pre-procedure, post-procedure

and short term prescriptions.

- Review local bacterial resistances and the impact that prescribing habits play

on those resistances.

Attendees will earn 1 CEU for participation.
