SPEAKER DEVELOPMENT ( Saturday Morning)

This half-day workshop, developed for Paradigm Oral Health surgeon faculty, equips surgeons with the presentation skills to match the clinical expertise they've spent careers building. The program opens with a compelling business case: survey data shows that speaker quality is the single greatest factor referring dentists cite when deciding where to send cases — making presentation craft one of the highest-return skills a surgeon can develop. Across seven modules, participants build the full arc of effective clinical presenting: managing anxiety, commanding physical presence and voice, structuring talks using a Rule of Three framework, transforming case material into six-element clinical stories, designing slides that support rather than compete with the speaker, and reading and adjusting to audience signals in real time. A workbook with Story Spine and Presentation Architecture worksheets bridges every module to immediate, practical application. The curriculum is built specifically around the two high-stakes contexts surgeons face most — professional conference presentations and referral-marketing lectures to study clubs and general dentist audiences — so every skill learned maps directly to a room they will actually stand in.

Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to:

• Identify the six core competencies that distinguish effective clinical speakers and recognize which competencies most limit their current performance.
• Apply evidence-based anxiety reappraisal strategies and a three-phase pre-event toolkit to channel physiological arousal into confident, energized delivery.
• Demonstrate stagecraft fundamentals — grounded posture, purposeful movement, sustained eye contact, and the four vocal levers of pace, pause, projection, and pitch — to establish authority before content begins.
• Structure any clinical talk using the Rule of Three and a deliberate open-body-close architecture, including a hook-based opening and a callback close with a specific call to action.
• Apply the six-element clinical story framework to transform existing case material into narratives that hold audience attention and drive a single memorable takeaway.
• Design slides that function as visual aids rather than speaker notes, applying the six universal design principles, and read live audience signals to pivot delivery in real time.

CLINCIAL CONTENT CAPTURE (Saturday Afternoon)

This session builds on the speaker development work Paradigm surgeons will have already undertaken, extending those skills into the visual domain. Dr. Curry and Dr. Ross lead a foundational session on clinical photography best practices, showing how high-quality image capture strengthens both documentation and the clinical storytelling that effective presentations depend on. An extended hands-on clinic gives participants direct practice applying capture techniques to case material they already present. Surgeons leave with a stronger visual toolkit that integrates directly into the six-element clinical story framework and slide design principles covered in Paradigm's Speaker Development curriculum.
