Complex Occlusion and Multiple Implants

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course examines the diagnosis and management of patients with severe parafunctional habits and failed full-mouth restorations presenting with pain and occlusal sensitivity. Emphasis is placed on clinical decision-making when orthognathic treatment is declined, highlighting interdisciplinary restorative and surgical strategies to restore function, manage sensitivity, and improve occlusal stability.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand why occlusal failure can occur and why.
  • How to manage multiple implants in a complex treatment plan.
  • When to say no to a case that shouldn't be started.

About Dr. Devan Munk:

Dr. Munk completed his undergraduate studies at Utah State University before earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. His surgical training began at MetroHealth Medical Center, a leading Level 1 trauma center in Cleveland, Ohio. He then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency through Georgetown University in Washington DC, where he trained at several prestigious institutions, including:

  • MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the largest and busiest Level 1 trauma center in Washington, DC
  • The Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center
  • Children's National Hospital, the only pediatric Level 1 trauma center in Washington, DC
  • The National Institutes of Health

His training encompassed the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Throughout his residency, he was actively involved with the Resident Organization of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, advocating for patients and the specialty at the national level.
