COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course reviews the management of a highly complex restorative case involving TMJ degeneration, arch collapse, severe tooth malposition, and missing dentition. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary diagnosis, treatment sequencing, and decision-making when orthodontic and periodontal therapies do not proceed as planned. Participants will gain insight into adapting restorative and implant strategies to achieve functional outcomes in compromised clinical situations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Managing VDO.
• Managing the damaged TM joint.
• Orthodontic treatment of the damaged dentition.
• What do you do when your patient changed directions mid-treatment vs. Behavioral tips on how patients learn.

About Dr. Devan Munk:

Dr. Munk completed his undergraduate studies at Utah State University before earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. His surgical training began at MetroHealth Medical Center, a leading Level 1 trauma center in Cleveland, Ohio. He then completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency through Georgetown University in Washington DC, where he trained at several prestigious institutions, including:

• MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the largest and busiest Level 1 trauma center in Washington, DC
• The Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center
• Children's National Hospital, the only pediatric Level 1 trauma center in Washington, DC
• The National Institutes of Health

His training encompassed the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Throughout his residency, he was actively involved with the Resident Organization of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, advocating for patients and the specialty at the national level.
